Let’s make a Felted Wreath Ornament

We are having so much fun on our quest for a handmade Christmas. It’s totally amazing how creativity takes on a life of it’s own… we have an idea, brainstorm it and discover that, yes, we can make just about anything! Kitty, in particular, has grown in confidence… she hardly ever says ‘I cant!’ and sets about creating with such enthusiasm. I am feeling very proud of her.

Today, we made a pretty wreath ornament. We used a couple of scraps of felted wool sweater. I don’t think craft is limited to using only a felted sweater… any material will work wonderfully.

To make this pretty ornament, we needed:

* Felted wool scraps (look here to see how to felt a wool sweater)
* pinking scissors
* wire (about 1 foot for the skeleton of the wreath)
* Yarn

We used the pinking scissors to cut the felted wool sweaters into 1 inch by 1 inch squares.

I folded each square in half and cut a small slit in the middle of each to make a hole in the middle of each square.

We made a little loop at the end of the wire to be the stopper and then threaded the woolen squares onto the wire.

Teddy worked very diligently and enjoyed this task immensely.

It was sweet to watch him concentrating… he took his threading job very seriously until each woolen square was in place on the wire.

We love the fuzzy look of the pinked squares… and the wool was wonderful to work with… so soft and tactile for little hands.

Once every square was in place, we bended the wire into a circle and fastened the ends together by twisting them. We tied a loop of yarn to hang our ornament onto the Christmas tree with and,

  1. I love the colours you used. I know my daughters would love to do this project. We are doing lots of felt projects at the moment so I’ve a good collection of felted jumpers around for them to use. Thanks for the tutorial.
