Let’s make Toadstool Ornaments.

We have arrived safely in South Africa after a very long 39 hour journey. It is so wonderful to be surrounded by all the familiar familial things from my childhood. And, so fantastic to see my family again. We have new family members arriving from around the world daily and it’s so meaningful to be reunited after years of being apart. I am going to share our adventures with you soon but, for now, I wanted to share a craft we did together as a family before we left home. A Good Man (daddy) has stayed home and will be joining us in a week, so it was really great for us to work together on these sweet toadstool ornaments before we parted. We have seen them on some of our favorite blogs and knew that they’d be such fun to make.

To make our ornaments, we needed:

* little half round wood bits (from a craft store)
* little wooden pots (from a craft store)
* string
* a glue gun
* permanent markers or paint
* a drill

We began by drilling holes in the little wooden half rounds. We will be threading string through these holes to hang our toadstool ornaments on the Christmas Tree.

Then, Daddy used the black permanent marker to draw the round circles for the toadstools.

Teddy and Kitty colored around the circles in color… Kitty colored them red but Mr T wanted his toadstools to be blue!

A Good Man finished off when the kids were too impatient and wanted to move onto the next step.

They started to look a lot like toadstools!

We threaded string through the little holes and tied them into loops.

We used our hot glue gun to stick the miniature wooden pots onto the toadstool tops.

And, Voila! The sweetest little toadstool ornaments around!

We have brought them with us to hang on Granny’s tree. It’s super to have little treasures from home to share.

Merry Blessings and magic,
Donni

  1. I absolutely love these! I have not seen those materials before, but I will keep my eye out now for them. I am glad that you are so happy, surrounded by your family. Merry Christmas!

  2. These are beautiful. I needle felted a miniture toadstool and inserted it into a glass ball to hang on the tree, I saw this on another blog, I can’t seem to get a good photo of it. I wish we could find these wooden bits to make crafts,, ours are a little rustic around here.

  3. HI Donni, I have recently stumbled across your blog and adore all of the craft you do with your children. My 5 year old and I have already started the flower fairies and will be making plenty of the other fun stuff. We would love to make these cute as a button toadstools however I cannot for the life of me find the half wood rounds or the little wooden pots. I am following you all the way from Australia and I wonder if these items have ‘technical’ names or if you suggest a website where I could buy these that would ship to Australia? Feeling rather sill that I can’t find these things, would have loved to have made them this weekend. Nevermind, we sure have plenty of other projects to keep us busy!! Thanks, Rebecca
