If you visit our Fairy Garden Page, you’ll see all the fun we’ve been having in our Fairy Garden. We started simply, making just the garden. My children played happily for hours in the moss and miniature. Then, we added a tire swing, which brought a whole new aspect to their Fairy Garden play. Then came a mailbox… you see, we are slowly adding fun little handmade goodies to the garden, keeping their play fresh and exciting. This is how the ‘veggie garden’ spot looked on Friday…
This is how it looks now…
tiny carrots with their greens poking up, an eggplant, some broccoli, a lettuce, an orange pumpkin and a whole bucket of apples for the tree.
Kitty can play on her own in her Fairy Garden for hours without any enticing. She is 8. But Teddy, who is 5, has a different temperament and needs a little help to keep him interested. While Kitty lives in her imagination, Teddy likes to have ‘stuff to do’. He literally emptied the well several times watering the whole garden using the well water tipped from the well bucket into a tiny red bucket. He needs to be physically active in the Fairy Garden. So, we decided to plant a veggie garden for him in our Fairy Garden.
We used Sculpey (Fimo) clay to make our little fruit. And then baked them in the oven per the instructions on the clay labels to harden our fruit and vegetables.
And then we planted them in the Fairy Garden.
Teddy has been digging up carrots, setting up fairy farmers markets and filling baskets with apples from the tree for days.
Adding new layers to his Fairy Garden play has been a fun challenge for me. As soon as I see him tiring of his time in the Fairy Garden, I get to work, thinking of new ideas to keep him involved. With a little work, I can spark his imagination in a whole new direction. Oh, the power we have!
I’m hoping you will all make Fairy Gardens with your children. The time you spend with them in this little world will be a gift you’ll all remember forever, even when they are big men digging up ‘real’ carrots.
When you’ve made your gardens, be sure to enter them in our Fairy Garden Contest too.
Happy fairy gardening!
Blessings and magic,
Donni

We’ve started ours. Here’s a link. http://chocoeyes.blogspot.com/2012/05/our-fairy-gnome-garden.html I’ll add ours when we’re “finished” with it. Love your veggies & apples they came out so cute. I’ve also noticed this with my boys, they like to have some activity going on with it.

Those came out great. The garden is looking so wonderful.
I’m in love with the little apples!
We are still at the collecting supplies stage as the weather has been wet and cold. The forecast is for sunny skies all week so I hope to get started very soon!
I love all of your ideas! I’ll keep the “boy aspect” in mind for my 7 year old son, perhaps a fairy badminton net would interest him?! ;o)

when I was young, we used sculpty clay to make fruits, veggies, and other little items for our playmobile LOL Not quite the same, yet still.
