Fall is my favorite season for so many reasons. I love the Fall colors… so rich and earthy. And, I am thankful for all the goodies Fall gives us to craft with… pine cones, acorns and colorful leaves.
But, what I love most about Fall is that it is ACORN season. It’s the time of year when we set off into the mountains to restock my acorn cap supply. It’s always such a worry, as we wind our way up into the sky… will the acorns have fallen too early? Was there enough water this year for a bountiful crop? Have the squirrels got to them first?
But then we get there and I see… my beautiful acorns are everywhere, waiting for me to claim them.
We set off into the forest, acorn buckets in hands, scouring the earth for these little bursts of gold. The air is fresh and dry and smells of pine and peat.
And we collect. All of us. Even the children.
When they tire, they spread out a blanket and play with the fun things the forest has saved for them.
Gigantic long pine cones from the Spruce.
Pretty little perfect pine cones, just waiting to become hedgehogs or fairies or dump trucks.
I especially love meeting my old friend Manzanita again… she is usually in fruit in the Fall but it is her smooth brown tree limbs that fascinate me the most.
Autumn’s beauty is everywhere. We breath her in and she calmes our nature-longing.
And, what do we do this work for? For acorns, of course… lots and lots of acorns!
And acorn kits… want to make your own?
All to be found in my magical shop – Fairyfolk.
The trip into the mountains is pure magic for us as we all engage in meaningful work. What work do you do as a family?
Blessings and magic,
