Tutorial : Felted Fall Wreath

Oh My Gosh… I can’t tell you how much I LOVE my new Autumn wreath! I LOVE it so much I have to touch it every time I look at it! I LOVE it even though I made it in my favorite skirt and destroyed my skirt by getting hot glue all over it. I LOVE it that much!

I made it using felted balls, a foam circle wreath I bought at Michael’s and my (ha, ha) my hot glue gun.

You can make the felt balls yourself by wet felting wool in autumn shades… or you can buy the felt balls online – I know Etsy.com has them.

I’m so excited at how stunning it is! I know I’m a felt freak but don’t you just want to touch it too? It’s so gorgeous I almost want to wear it as a necklace… or a scarf! Ha ha… my daughter would cringe so I’ll have to do it when she’s at school.

I’ve made a few for The Magic Onions Shop too… using a wood backing instead of the foam so that they travel better. You can see them HERE.

Happy Autumn crafting,

Blessings and magic,

Donni

  1. OH. MY. GOODNESS! That is so yummy! I want to eat it. And the ones in your shop are awesome too!
    Gorgeous!

  2. Hi Donni,
    Your wreath is great!
You could try putting your skirt in the freezer. Then you could see if the glue would come off easier when it is frozen. It might break up enough to pull most of it off.
    Good luck,

  3. Stunning!

So. much. love. It’s beautiful and the colors are so perfect and muted! I’ve been wanting to make one myself, and want to try my hand at felting the balls myself, but no one tutorial says how much wool I should buy from the seller online for the size of the wreath they have pictured. Any tips or guidelines on guesstimating how much wool it takes to make, say, 100 smallish balls? I’d love to make it myself using your tute, but cant afford to pay shipping twice if i run out of wool. Oh the conundrum! Thanks for the help! :)

    • Hi Emilia,
Amounts of wool is always a conundrum… even for me, lol.
In your case, I’d get a little more rather than too little. I’d say a pound and a half would do it (but I am guestimating). Here is a link to my favorite wool blend for making felt balls… you’ll see all sorts of stunning colors – http://www.opulentfibers.com/maori-carded-wool/#.Unkq1CTwPck
Sorry I can’t be more definite.
      Blessings and magic,
