Advent Story -

Franziska, who is a Simplicity Parenting Group Leader, has written a very sweet storybook called Charlie & Noel – An Advent Calendar Book. It is a perfect bedtime read for our kids this time of year. 25 Short chapters, one for every day of Advent and at the end of each Advent chapter, you’ll find discussion starters and ideas for additional activities. Join in the Advent journey with the people you love most and travel thoughtfully through this wonderful season together.

Franziska is giving away two copies of her book to two lucky winners. Details at the end of the post. But before we get to that, here are a few questions Franziska answered for me so that we can get to know her a little better:

Donni: Tell us about the beginnings of your business.

Franziska : When I was growing up, my family would gather (almost) every night of Advent, light a candle, read a story, and sing a song. I loved those evenings. I LOVED them throughout grade school, loved them in middle school, and kind of tolerated them in high school. But they were always there. A deeply grounded tradition.

I wanted to establish this kind of tradition for my kids, too. And pretty soon, I stumbled into the first road block. I couldn’t find any Advent books. Sure, there are devotionals and craft guides, but there are no stories. And because I couldn’t find one, I decided to write one. I wrote it for my girls. And when it was done, I wanted to share it with all the families out there, too.”

Donni : Do you have a favorite inspirational quote?

Franziska : “Stories never really end…even if the books like to pretend they do. Stories always go on. They don’t end on the last page, any more than they begin on the first page.” ― Cornelia Funke

Donni : How are your children incorporated into your business?

Franziska : I wouldn’t tell stories if it wasn’t for my children. Since becoming a mother four years ago, I tell stories. However, I looked more into the healing aspects for storytelling when some big life changes happened and my daughter responded which major sleep issues. A new baby arrived. We moved four states away. Huge changes – and hard to grasp for a little one. We tried so many things regarding sleeping, I stopped counting. Nothing worked. Trying to understand what was going on, it became very apparent that she suffered from separation anxiety. So I started to develop stories to help her make sense of what was going on in her life. And I never stopped telling stories. Some because of their healing powers. Some for their (subtle) messages. Some just for fun.

Donni : If you could eliminate one thing from your daily schedule, what would it be?

Franziska : Marketing!

Donni : What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

Franziska : Herbal tea.
