My Beautiful Kitty,
It is an honor to be your mom. You have brought us 10 years of joy. Your dad and I marvel at the girl you have become. You have grown so much in this past year… in height (you are almost as tall as I am) and in so many other ways too. You have become strong and confident in yourself and you smile with an open face and sparkling eyes. You don’t yet know how beautiful this makes you look but you do know that people can’t help smiling back at you. You make people feel happy, Kitty, and this is such a precious gift to have.
You believe in fairies and goodness and Santa and all the other magical things that make our lives such fun. You are learning to play the violin. You read SO much. And you spend hours and hours drawing. You write stories too, brilliant stories about girls finding puppies and Indian children taming mustangs on the prairies. You know what you want to do when you grow up… you want to illustrate your own novels for children… I bet you will too.
I have particularly loved watching your friendship with your brother grow this year. He is 6 now and can at last play the way you want him to play. You are very kind to often let him think he is in charge. I see him looking up at you with adoration… you are his big sister who will always keep him safe.
One of your wishes came true this year… you got the puppy you had been longing for. You named him Moose and you love him more than you even thought possible.
We have had our challenges and will continue to have them as the years go by but I hope we can always work through them together with the love and respect we feel for each other now.
If I have to find one word to describe you this past year, it would be ‘grace’. You honor us with your presence.
Thank you, my beautiful Kitty. I love you.
