Week 5/52
We have a place that we go, in the foothills of the mountains, where we can almost be alone. We let Moose off his lead and let him run free. It makes us all so happy.

You definitely have some unique and beautiful wilderness near you. I have traveled a lot in CA, having grown up there and with my dad being a forest fire fighter pilot (he dropped retardant on fires and we often visited him where he was currently stationed, which was where fires were most prevalent at the time), but I’m not sure if I ever saw the area you live in. The stones are so smoothly worn away, it looks almost as if a lot of water flows in the area, plus all the green grass! At the same time, when I go “home” to visit my parents, the wilderness looks so different than it used to. They have exotic cacti and plants that look like they belong in the rain forest growing where brush and manzanita (sp?) trees used to dominate the area. In fact, when we first moved there, tumbleweeds used to blow down the streets, now there are never tumbleweeds and some people insist I’m joking when I tell them that. I also just learned that there are two wild flocks of parrots in San Diego! Hi Maureen. It’s taken many years to find these places… it’s like finding gifts from Mother Earth when we stumble upon a magical spot like that.

Okay, I am IN LOVE with your dog! What type of dog is Moose? I used to live in Switzerland and, ever since then, I’ve had a fondness for dogs with tri-colors (think Bernese Mountain Dog). However, I made the decision only to rescue dogs and I have yet to come across a rescue that looks like Moose. Anyway, just wanted to say how gorgeous he is! I’ve been wanting to join this series but don’t know that I’ll be able to post each week. Is it okay to post now and then when I get a chance to take some pictures? I just took some great ones today that I’d love to share…..

Hi Audrey… you and us both :-) He’s been such a good fit for us. He’s a Mini Australian Shepherd. He’s only 6 months old so he’s still a puppy but he’s just delightful and so very good!
