Nature is an antidote to stress.

The crazy holiday season has begun in earnest and life at The Sunny House is hectic as we try to juggle work and kids and family affairs. It’s a fun time of year with parties and celebrations… but it can be stressful too as rhythms change and out-of-the-ordinary events occur much more often than usual. If you want to read more…click here

Days of Wonder

Kitty received a wonderful book from her Godfather for Christmas. It’s called “365 Days of Wonder”. Each day a new quote for us to read to each other and ponder. We’ve come to the conclusion that it’s right… there are indeed 365 days of wonder in the year and that little daily things are, inIf you want to read more…click here

I Chose Love Instead of Anger :: Discovering Waldorf Education

You came to me in the night to say that you had been bitten by a mosquito. I wanted to scold you and remind you that I’d told you to keep your window shut. But I didn’t. I got out of bed and we searched your room until we found him and made him noIf you want to read more…click here

Winter Days

Happy Winter! We have been enjoying the lovely cool, crisp days so much with lots of nature hikes. We find treasures everywhere, like a stump swarming with newly hatched termites. To my Beautiful Teddy Bear, my May Day boy. Today you are 6! How time with you has flown by. I remember, like it was yesterday, holding your warm little body in my arms on that first day I met you. Simple Joys

Elixir of the Spirit.

Yay, we are back! I’m sorry for such a long absence but I the truth is that needed to take some time off to refuel and regroup. I felt like I was loosing my spark… and my voice. I felt like the magic was fading and, as the magic of childhood is what I’m allIf you want to read more…click here

Oh, it’s been so cold! To be Touched.

Sometimes it happens that I am overwhelmed, in a moment, for no particular reason, with that wellspring of emotion that rises so quickly and powerfully that there is no controlling its effects. Our Little House in the Big Woods.

I am sooooo sorry for my abrupt absence! You see what the stress of having to choose a winner for the Fairy Garden Competition did? I must record this story of Teddy’s. It is one of those little family anecdotes that you think is so precious you’ll never forget it. 10 Happy Years.

Pine Needle Forest

We have a pine forest that we love to play in. With a pine needle carpet under our feet. Lovely places for children to hide. A Magical Mushroom Hunt.

The Butterfly Catchers.

It’s a wonderfully warm, autumn afternoon. K has a friend over. They are playing in the garden. Magical, 5-year-old games. A Favourite Book.

This is one of Mr T’s favourite books and the great thing is that K loves it too. It is called ‘What Baby Wants’ by Phyllis Root, illustrations by Jill Barton. Bon Voyage to Daddy.

Love.

I try to live in the moment and be grateful and thankful for this very instant, this ordinary day. Cauliflower Cheese.

We visited our Farmers Market on Sunday again. These were at the very first table. Could you resist them? We couldn’t. Aren’t they the most beautiful cauliflowers you have ever seen? Sundays Farmers Market.

My dad loves nothing more than a Farmers Market. He is a doctor, and a wonderful one at that, but I think, his whole life, he has wanted to be a farmer. Earth Hour tonight – 8.30-9.30 pm

I will be turning our lights off, one hour from now, 8.30 – 9.30 pm. My children are asleep in bed. I have my candles ready and I intend to spend that time soaking in the bath and reflecting on what bounty and beauty this earth has given me.

The Pact.

Poor Mr T. He had a bad night last night. He was up at 3 am with only a little restless sleep from then. I think it was his teeth. He has all his teeth except his two bottom incisors which are inflamed red mounds in his gums. They look painful and I’m sure theyIf you want to read more…click here

Best Friends Forever?

K is 5 and, already, she has formed a deep, sweet, soul-sister friendship. She did it all on her own. Or rather, they did it all on their own. Conversation with K.

Conversation with K… Background: S is K’s very good friend. Their birthdays are two days apart. It has been very confusing for both of them that K is noticeably taller than S… in their 5-year-old logic, size = age.                                  If you want to read more…click here

I think I’ve had a breakthrough this morning…  K is all about feelings at the moment… when she gets into trouble for not tidying up her room at the end of the day, she cries desperately, lamenting that I’ve ‘hurt her feelings’. The Joys Around Us.

My whole life, I have wanted to live in a place beautiful enough to have a squirrel want to live there too. Natures Hearts

Daily things I love: being woken up by T and seeing that the clock says 6.01 am. my first cup of coffee. seeing T’s excitement when we arrive at K’s school to pick her up. The boy loves his sister.
