When we made our Beeswax Valentine Hearts yesterday, we had a little melted wax left over. I remembered such a fun project making beeswax acorns and y’all know how crazy I am about acorns. It didn’t take much convincing to get K excited too. Aren’t they just adorable?
To make our little beeswax acorns, we needed…
Beeswax (available in my Fairyfolk shop)
Acorn caps
marbles
playdough (here is a link to our home-made playdough recipe)
Melt the beeswax over a bain-marie (check out yesterdays post to get home-made bain-marie instructions)
While the wax is melting, roll your playdough into a log and press the marbles into it.
Gently extract your marbles, leaving round indents in the playdough.
When your beeswax is melted, pour it into your home-made acorn mould and let it cool.
When the wax has cooled, but is still slightly warm and pliable, peel it out of the palydough.
Break you round wax balls apart and round them gently.
Choose acorn caps that are just the right size for your little beeswax balls and, Voila! The are our table centerpiece at the moment and I can’t help gazing at them lovingly… they are too adorable for words.

Are these just for decoration? I’m just curious about using beeswax and wondering if the various ornaments, etc. are useable in some other way than just decor. They are very sweet and I love the idea of using playdough as the mold.
I have so so many wonderful acorn ideas on the internet I’ve actually resorted to facebooking friends to collecting them for me. ;)

Hi Finding My Truth… you asked if these beeswax creations are just for decoration… well yes and no. They are for decoration, they look so warming and sweet. I love how they look in my home. They also give off the most wonderful natural scent. When we have our beeswax decorations out, our home smells gorgeous… like honey and wax. Then, they are wonderful gifts… some of the hearts we made will be given to K’s teacher for Valentines Day. They are also toys… K has had the little acorns in her room since the photo’s were taken… they are a part of her play scene, they have been the dinner on the table for her fairies. But, the most important thing that they are, is the joy of being creative… we made them… we turned a block of hard beeswax into pretty little things… for me, that’s what they really are… creativity and a tool for teaching my children that they can make beautiful things. So, you see, they are many things. Thanks for the question… I enjoyed answering it.
