Let’s make a Harvest Garland.

Today, in honor of the season of harvest, we made a dried fruit garland to hang in our home. It was wonderful for the kids to work with the fruit but I must admit that as much got eaten as got strung, so be sure to double up when you make yours :-)

To make a dried fruit garland, slice your fruit into thin slices. We used apples and oranges.

Make a small hole in each slice. String your fresh fruit slices in a cool dry place to dry. Our oranges and apples dried within a day.

Once your fruit slices are dried, string them along a fresh length of yarn.

And find a special place in your home to hang your harvest garland.

Blessings and magic,
Donni

  1. i have seen many garlands lately, but this may be the on for me! living on an island my leaf and pinecone resources are scarce. but, i think this might be lovely to do with my 3 year old and will make the house fragrant!

  2. I tried to make these once before and they took so long to dry out. It is so awfully humid here. I vowed that if I did it again, I would have to use a fruit dehydrator. Yours look so beautiful.

  3. these look great, thanks for the instructions to make some. Although id better wait til next winter, as the weather heats up id better not tempt ants into our house!

  4. They look delicious in every way! Did you have any issues with fruit flies? They plague us here in San Diego, and I’m curious whether these garlands tend to attract them.
    Thanks for posting!!!

  5. I’m writing because I run a sensory site and am looking for great ideas for Thanksgiving. And as any parent, we’re looking for terrific Thanksgiving crafts and ideas for kids with Sensory Processing Disorder and on the Autism Spectrum. Would you add a link to a craft idea or two on our blog? Here’s the link to share and get more traffic to your site…
