I know I go on a bit about our Waldorf teachers but they never cease to amaze me. They are exceptional, beautiful people who bless our lives with their care and love. This Thanksgiving, like many others, I bow in gratitude to their presence in our family.
We celebrated Thanksgiving in Teddy’s Kindergarten class with a potluck lunch while the boys (there are 9 boys in Teddy’s class) graced us with the songs they have learned in class.
Ms Michelle sent us all home happy and grateful with this beautiful Thanksgiving verse.
Home Is Where The Heart Is
Home is where the heart is
So let this heart beat strong
May everyone who enters here
Rest in knowing they belong
May the sound of joyful laughter
Echo sweetly through each room
From the moment sunrise floods the Earth
To the rising of the moon
Then into the quite moments
Of each evening may you hear
The whispers of the angels
Singing softly in your ear
What a meaningful Thanksgiving verse, Ms Michelle… thank you for blessing our home with these touching words.
At our school, a week or two before Thanksgiving, we celebrate together as a community with our Lantern Walk. We gather at dusk at a nearby park, each of us with a beautifully handcrafted lantern. Singing songs of Autumn and with our glowing lanterns we walk through the park into the early night. Our lanterns shine our gratitude for life’s blessings into the darkness, lighting our way and our hearts. The children walk and sing and glimmer with reverence.

Isn’t this a beautiful needle felted rendition of our Lantern Walk.

Here are the words to one of the songs we sing on our Lantern Walk…
GLIMMER, LANTERN, GLIMMER
Glimmer, lantern, glimmer
Little stars a-shimmer
Over meadow, moor and dale
Flitter, flutter, elfin veil
Pee-wit, pee-wit, tikka-tikka-tik
Rucoo, rucoo.
Glimmer, lantern, glimmer
Little stars a-shimmer
Over rock and stock and stone
Wandering, skipping, little gnome
Pee-wit, pee-wit, tikka-tikka-tik
Rucoo, rucoo.
Here is the long on YouTube for the tune… Glimmer, Lantern, Glimmer
This really is a meaningful community Thanksgiving tradition. I’d love to hear other Thanksgiving traditions you’d like to share too?
Blessings and magic,
Donni

Thanks for sharing the verses- these are beautiful!
Hi Donni, indeed a wonderful felted image! Just in addition to your Lantern story: In Europe, in our case Holland there is the tradition of walking with a lantern on November the 11th. We celebrate the kindness and sharing of St. Maarten who shared his mantle, the last thing he had, with a cold and poor beggar.
Our children go calling door tot door and sing for us getting candy and tangerines in return! Starting of the season of light!
I really love your site and your work! good luck to you,
kind regards, Jet
i’m just finally doing Waldorf homeschool K for my eighth child this year, and blogs like this are so full of inspiration – thank you!
