Summer Vacation in Jackson Hole

We have just had a glorious family holiday. 10 Days in beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming. What a beautiful place… so full of trees and nature and lovely people. An added treat was that Granny joined us from South Africa too.

We stayed with friends in Jackson for the first week. Glorious! Our bedroom window looked out onto wild mountains and horse pastures. We called the horses and fed them through the fence. We went to a rodeo! We ate delicious spare ribs. We all wore our cowboy hats. We went riding through the Grand Tetons.

We spent the last few days in the magnificent Yellowstone National Park. We saw elk, deer, bison… only the elusive bear avoided us. We watched Old Faithful shoot up into the air. We smelled the sulfur mud baths bubbling from the heart of the earth. We saw breathtaking scenery and walked among the wild flowers.

And, we realized that so many of our own childhood memories come from the family trips we had when we were children. We realized that these times together will be what our children remember. The being together, the talking, the experiencing of new things together… it is all so precious.

Just look at the excitement as our plane took off…

Thanks to our generous friends for sharing their home with us.

Welcome to Jackson Hole!!

Each year, elk and deer grow a new set of beautiful antlers. At first, the antlers are covered in a tiny layer of hairs that look like soft velvet. Towards the end of the winter, they have scratched their antlers clean. In early spring, their antlers fall off and new antlers grow. It’s a fun activity to go into the mountains in search of a beautiful pair of antlers.

What fun and exciting trips are you planning for the summer?

Blessings and magic,

  1. My brother and I did some travelling when I lived in the USA. Jackson Hole (and surrounding area) was my favourite place so I know why you say glorious. Hope they are still doing the nightly shoot out. Oh and we caught a glimpse of a bear and another one had a good sniff of our tent when we were fast asleep (another camper told us).
