I’ve been dreaming about knitting… maybe it’s because autumn is on her way and I’m looking forward to being warm and cozy.

I would LOVE to be able to knit something as beautiful as these sea urchins! Are they not magnificent!

But, to be honest with you all, I’m only at the scarf stage of knitting. But don’t think you only have to make scarves if you are at the scarf stage. Look at this gorgeous blanket, made from 5 scarves sewn into a large blanket. I’d really like to make a scarf blanket like this!

And, to my friend Serina… I’m going to make you this yarn cake on your birthday!

Blessings and magic,

  1. Oh good gracious those sea anemones are amazing. I had been toying with the idea of knitting one to go with my other sea creatures, but to seeing these I am not going to even attempt to.

  2. Ha! I can’t wait for that yummy cake! I’ll tell you what… you really make me that cake and I will knit you some sea urchins ; ) deal?

  3. I have to encourage you to take a leap of faith with knitting. I had a friend ask me to help her learn to knit. She could knit and purl, but not cast on or off. Once she picked those skills up she declared she was ready for a real project. I suggested scarves, children’s toys and garments, but she wouldn’t have it. “I’ll knit socks!” she confidently announced. So she learned to knit in the round, follow a pattern, *and* do cables, knit heels and kitchener stitching for the toes, all in her first project. Now that’s a crazy level of jumping in feet first, but it can be done. She refused to get scared and just learned each skill as the need for it came up. If you have a knitting mentor or a willingness to watch many knittinghelp.com videos, I’m very sure you can knit urchins. There is a nice knit urchin pattern on Rav (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sea-urchin-3). The ones in your post were machine knit, so sadly there’s no pattern available.

And add me to the list of people who would knit you some urchins in exchange for a yarn cake. It’s my birthday in less than a week – do they express post to Oz? ;)
