I love this part of the summer vacation. Two months down and one to go and we have finally settled into our summer rhythm, at last! We’ve been through so many phases… the ‘there’s NOTHING to do‘ phase, the ‘begging to play games on the phone‘ phase and the ‘who is coming to play today?’ phase. We are finally in the phase where our days flow with our own ideas and our creativity comes easily. It’s taken two months to get here and, boy, is it worth the struggle. I love seeing my kids happy in their own happy skins.

Here are some of the things we’ve been up to in this ‘happy summer’ phase…

It rained and we’ve danced in the rain (a very novel occurrence here in Southern California these days) . We’ve made spaceships with wood blocks and a glue gun. We’ve made lots of gorgeous castles and we’ve played with clay for many, many hours, making tiny fairy food. We’ve played with Lego. We’ve baked. We’ve painted. We’ve made messes. We’ve made fairy gardens. This is the part of summer  that I enjoy the most.

How can an 11 year old make clouds look so real?

What have you been up to this summer?

Blessings and magic,

Donni

  1. So important for kids to have a long time to settle into their natural creativity.
One thing we’ve done this Summer is put a little paddling pool at the garden and pretend we’re at the beach!

    1. Great idea, Gwen… we could have done with that! Maybe I’ll look for a paddling pool for the rest of our summer.

  2. Did you paint your own shirt Kate? It’s nice. In the first picture I didn’t see my hat on top of the cupboard but then I saw it farther down. I love your wooden spaceships Teddy. Didn’t you get glue everywhere?

    1. Hi Bev,
We found them a few years ago at World Market. They were Christmas ornaments and I took out the string loops. They are our favorites :)
