We are having Thanksgiving at The Sunny House this year. Of course, this is a GREAT excuse to get crafting. We have the whole week off from school and have LOTS of projects on our list.
We can tick off a felt leaf garland that we made today. Isn’t it awesome?!
Of course, I know you are utterly sidetracked by the adorable clay fox Kitty made for her friend yesterday. This child! She’s amazing… I see her with a ball of clay and half an hour later she’s painting this fox. ‘Please can I have him, Kitty?’ I plead… ‘I LOVE him so much, I really HAVE to have him… I’ll pay you for him. Please!’ ‘No, Mom.’ She answers, ‘I made him for someone special and his soul is especially for her. You just have to be generous. You can’t keep ALL of my things.’
Seeing my genuinely crestfallen face (I have to have this fox, even if it means I’m the opposite of ‘generous’!) she added… ‘I’ll make you one. He’ll be especially for you and will have a different soul that is meant only for you.’ Gosh… okay, I think… I’d rather have a fox made with a soul that’s especially for me then.
Anyway, back to the felt leaf garland. Here it is again…
I’m loving my felted leaves. I have a Sizzix cutter and am thinking up all kinds of wonderful felt leaf projects. You can see how I cut the leaves here (and also some lovely felt leaf ornaments too.)
I’ve had some requests to sell felt leaves and so have listed a few in the shop for those of you who need them.
To make a felt leaf garland, all you need are felt leaves (make them or find them here), hemp string, scissors and a needle with a big eye.
Begin by folding the leaves in half and cutting two small incisions into the felt. Make the incisions in the middle of the width of the leaves and close together.
Thread the needle with the hemp string and thread the leaves onto the hemp though the small cuts in each leaf.
Tie loop knots in the ends of your garland and hang it in pride of place. I love how wonderfully colorful the leaves are… they are a beautiful reflection of the colors I’m seeing outside the window.
And here he is again for those of you who need to see him again. Do you really think mine will quite so wonderful?
Sigh!
