The kids and I have made napkin rings for our Thanksgiving table.
Our Thanksgiving table will be nature-inspired and these twig and oak napkin rings will look wonderful.
Home Is Where The Heart Is
Home is where the heart is
So let this heart beat strong
May everyone who enters here
Rest in knowing they belong
May the sound of joyful laughter
Echo sweetly through each room
From the moment sunrise floods the Earth
To the rising of the moon
Then into the quite moments
Of each evening may you hear
The whispers of the angels
Singing softly in your ear
We used twigs we found outside, felt leaves (make them or purchase them here), wooden napkin rings from the craft store, felt acorns (make them or purchase them here), hemp string from the craft store and glue.
Tutorial :
Measure the twigs against the napkin ring and cut the twigs about double the length of the rings. You’ll need quite a lot and, luckily, kids love to help.
Glue the twigs all around the outside of the wood napkin ring. I find glue from a hot glue gun works best as I’m not so great at waiting for school glue to dry.
Glue the end of the hemp string in the middle of the twigs and wrap the hemp string around the napkin ring. Glue the end in place.
Glue a felt leaf onto the hemp string.
Glue the felted acorn to the felt leaf.
We love our nature-inspired napkin rings. Our Thanksgiving table will be orange and yellow with felt leaves, acorns and straw flowers strewn across the tablecloth.
We have introduced a new tradition this year. I’ve asked everyone, kids included, to prepare a poem or reading about being grateful or something that inspires gratefulness.
Kitty has a lovely poem prepared, I haven’t found mine yet and Teddy is going to recite the blessing he says before lunch at school every day :
Blessing
For the golden corn
For the apples in the trees
For the golden butter
For the honey from the bees
For fruits and nuts and berries that grow along the way
Dear Father Sun and Mother Earth
We give our thanks this day.
Blessings on our food and Peace be on the earth.
We are so excited to have our dear friends with us for this special day.
Here are some of our other Fall inspired crafts.
Blessings and magic,
Donni
