Felted Acorn Ornaments :: DIY Tutorial :: www.theMagicOnions.com

If you know me, you know I’m partial to felted acorns. In fact, I can thank felted acorns for giving birth to my entire business. Felted acorns were the very first handmade goodies I offered for sale in The Magic Onions Shop. This was long ago, folks, long before EVERYONE on Etsy started making felted acorns. Back when they were still a novelty.

We make felted acorns for our Christmas tree every year. Sometimes, we make them with colorful ribbon or cord. This year, we made them with hemp string. I LOVE the rustic look this hemp gives them.

If you love felted acorns as much as I do, you are in for a treat today. I’m sharing my DIY tutorial with you so that you can make some for your tree too.

Here’s what you’ll need…

Materials :

  1. felt balls in your favorite colors (find them here.).
  2. real acorn caps.
  3. hemp string (the thinnest you can find).
  4. glue (hot glue is best but if you are working with children, school glue works just as well… you just have to be more patient waiting for the glue to dry.)
  5. scissors

Method :

Step 1

First pair up all of acorn caps with your felt balls, making sure the balls fit snugly in the cap. Leave the balls in the acorn caps until you are ready to glue them together.

Step 2

Drill small holes in each acorn cap.

Step 5.

Thread a hemp loop through the hole in the acorn cap so that the ends of the hemp loop sit just below the lip of the acorn cap.
