Teddy’s friend is having a birthday and we decided to make her some pretty felt hair barrettes. Because it’s SPRING here in Southern California, we chose pretty pastel colors.
I’m happy to share the DIY tutorial with you below…
I think she’ll love them, don’t you?
All you’ll need is pretty felt in spring pastel colors, hair barrettes and a hot glue gun.
They are pretty simple to make once you have mastered the flower-making technique.
1. Use scissors to cut the felt into a scalloped spiral about 6 inches in diameter. My favorite felt-cutting scissors are small and sharp and I turn the felt as I cut instead of the scissors.
2. Roll the scalloped spiral of felt into a flower. Start with the outside of the spiral. Roll it up on itself, keeping the petals even on top.
3. You can let the center (bottom) of the flower span outward a little. And even pull the petals a little to widen your flower into an open shape.
4. When you come to the round center of the spiral at the end, put a little glue onto the underside of the felt and stick it over the bottom to hide the messy rolled up felt.
Put a little glue from a hot glue gun onto the back of the felt flower and stick it onto the barrette.
Which is your favorite color?
These lovely felt flowers can be used in so many projects. I have used them to make fairy garden furniture and felt flower ornaments for the Christmas tree.

These are sooo pretty!
I am putting together a sort of spring arts and crafts compilation blog post, with pictures of creative projects for Easter. Would you mind if I shared one of your pictures? I will of course credit it with a link to this post. I did the same thing last year if you would like a reference on how it might look: http://aliciasivert.blogspot.se/2015/03/paskpeppen-2015.html
Thank you for the inspiration!
Sincerely,
Alicia
